ELVIRA
MUNTONI
Elvira Muntoni
Born in Italy in 1979, until now, she has dedicated herself to architecture, working with several architectural firms among Barcelona, Brussels and Florence in the last 15 years. In 2011 she's been working in New York with the artist Tom Sachs and also teaching Modeling Techniques at IED Florence.
Always interested in multidisciplinary art, her works are a combination of handmade printings with embroidery, paper cutouts, ceramic, printmaking. and environmental art. She uses these materials as a means to bind together parts of reality, interpretations from her memories, her roots and creating a space for a personal exploration and research.
Her images are poetic compositions that want to make a reflection about identities, memories, feelings and un/consciousness. Sometimes playful, other times obscure, her works hint at fate, possibilities and perception, bringing a sense of balance of opposite sides. All translated into her expression of multiplicity.
Interested in materials, processes and human traditions, her love for paper led her to Japan to have a training in washi papermaking.
